摘要

We examine the impact of a letter of gratitude from the government on schools’ efforts on data entries into the Education Management Information System (EMIS) in the Kyrgyz Republic. To answer this question, we conducted a field experiment involving 500 randomly sampled public and municipal schools nationwide. The treatment was to send letters of gratitude from the Ministry of Education and Science, acknowledging schools’ good work with the EMIS, regardless of their prior performance. The change in the number of students entered into the EMIS from the pre-treatment period was used as the dependent variable. We found that both in the shorter and longer terms (2 months and 14 months later), the treatment effect was positive: it increased the number of students entered into the EMIS by 23.6 and 35.8, respectively.
