<p>Two eel goby specimens, originally collected off southern Taiwan, were identified as the poorly known amblyopine species <i>Sovvityazius acer</i> Prokofiev 2015. No subsequent information was added since the original description of the species. The examined specimens are recognized by having 10 + 19 vertebrae, the first two pterygiophores of the second dorsal fin separated by a neural spine, dorsal- and anal-fin pterygiophores simple, two epurals, a large, well-developed eye, the head and body with scaled areas, and dermal folds and barbels absent. They represent the first Taiwanese record with its distribution range extending northward. Some minor variations compared to the original description and the presence of hypural 5 were noted.</p>
