<p>The populations of sharks and rays face significant threats from multiple factors, highlighting the need for effective management strategies. To accurately assess these populations, a thorough understanding of their exploitation patterns is crucial. This study was carried out from June 2022 to June 2023 at two main fish landing ports in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. A total of 8 species of sharks from 3 families and 6 species of rays from 3 families were successfully identified in Kuantan LKIM Fish Landing Port while 4 species of sharks from 3 families and 4 species of rays from 2 families were successfully identified during the sampling period in Kuala Dungun Fish Landing Port. From this study, <i>Carcharhinus sorrah</i>, <i>Chiloscyllium punctatum</i>, <i>Chiloscyllium hasseltii</i> are the shark species that can be observed abundantly from both fish landing ports compared to other species. Ray species on the other hand was dominated by <i>Rhynchobatus australiae</i> at both ports. From this study, it can be concluded that the catch is mostly (more than 50%) comprised of species listed as endangered and the number of individuals of some species are decreasing. The findings of this study provide new information and will facilitate better understanding on the species for future management and conservation measures of sharks and rays in Malaysia.</p>
