摘要

Invasive and alien species pose a real threat to global biodiversity. During a routine field survey for the monitoring of alien marine species on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco, the anthuroid isopod Paranthura japonica Richardson, 1909 was detected for the first time in Marina of Saidia, representing therefore its first record in Morocco and the westernmost record of the species in the south Mediterranean. Fifteen specimens of the alien species were collected from the marina on the first of January 2025. Future investigations may reveal its presence elsewhere in Morocco. It is highly recommended to monitor its distribution along the African coasts and to study how it interacts with the native biota.
