<p>Medical waste management is a major global challenge. It is essential for protecting the health of healthcare professionals, patients, and the environment. This study aims to assess the level of knowledge and practices of healthcare staff regarding medical waste management and to analyze the influence of organizational factors at the hospital level. The research followed a cross-sectional, analytical design and unfolded at ElIdrissi Hospital, Kenitra, over the course of 2023. Data were collected using a questionnaire. 136 trained healthcare staff were recruited from various departments. The collected data were statistically analyzed, and associations with organizational factors were investigated using appropriate software. Among the 136 participants, 70.6% had knowledge of medical waste management. A significant association was found between knowledge level and waste sorting practices. 66.20% indicated that a medical waste management protocol was already in place, and 73% stated that their department had appointed a designated contact person. Furthermore, the study showed that the improper use of waste bags and incorrect sorting are linked to workload overload, lack of equipment, and insufficient information. Despite the high level of knowledge reported by healthcare staff, the results raise challenges in practice requiring interventions at the organizational and functional level to address workload overload and lack of equipment regarding compliance with good waste management practices in order to limit its impact on the health of professionals, patients and the environment.</p>
