Performance of combined method based on coagulation-flocculation and UV disinfection for wastewater treatment
摘要
In the context of environmental monitoring, there is a need for improvement of effluent discharged in the Mediterranean Sea from wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the region of Regiche, Mahdia, in Tunisia. Recent studies have mentioned the promising application of the coagulation-flocculation combined to UV-disinfection. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to investigate the influence of various parameters such as coagulant, flocculant and Ultraviolet (UV) doses in a complementary process. Analysis of the physicochemical parameters showed that most of them have exceeded the standard limit as well as bacterial pollution revealed by the surpassed charge of total coliform bacteria and fecal streptococcus. Then, in order to comply with Tunisian standards for the discharge of effluent from the WWTP in the public maritime sector and potential reuse in agriculture, two treatment systems are proposed. The first treatment corresponds to pre-filtration, sterilization under ultraviolet radiation and filtration. The second treatment consists on the combined method by coagulation-flocculation, the UV disinfection and filtration. Results of the physicochemical and bacterial analysis have shown that the second treatment system is being effective and will be recommended in the studied WWTP because it successfully reduces the concentrations of pollutants in the effluent.
