<p>The rising incidence of cosmetic contaminants in water and wastewater systems has emerged as a major environmental concern. Their enduring toxicity and recalcitrance have garnered global concern. This review methodically investigates novel approaches to eliminate cosmetic contaminants, with a focus on the developing discipline of green&#xa0;nanoparticles. Green&#xa0;nanoparticles, which are derived from a variety of natural sources have outstanding potential for mitigating water pollution through unique mechanisms. It was found that the plant-based nanoparticles showed the highest removal ranging between 80 and 90% followed by microbe and algae-based nanoparticles which were between 70 and 90%. The chitin/chitosan-based bio(nano)polymers showed a 70% removal rate. Many research articles have discussed the three domains; green nanotechnologies, cosmetic pollutants and aquatic health individually, but these potentially interconnected fields have not been explored altogether before. The synergistic study of these interdisciplinary fields is more promising and provides better insights towards cross-domain analysis for the future of water treatment methods. With transformations like; the incorporation of green nanoparticles in current wastewater treatment methods, the use of green nanoparticles in biofilms and water filters etc. The review targets the possibilities and future scope of green nanoparticles with their current limitation and huddles, in addition to critically examining the constraints and opportunities for scaling these technologies for practical use.</p>
