<p>The article interrogates food aid governance in Zimbabwe by focusing on the achievements, challenges and opportunities encountered during the periods 2005 and 2020. The study is anchored from a point of departure that food aid has been and is still being utilised to ameliorate food insecurity particularly in food security–vulnerable regions of the world. The study deployed a qualitative documentary analysis in which evaluation of secondary data guided the human rights–based approach introspections. It established that food aid provides a critical humanitarian ‘window’ characterised by serving human lives, however, marred by food aid insufficiencies, limited funds and distributional encounters. The study concludes that provision of humanitarian food aid to the vulnerable is central to humanitarian and human rights law; hence, it should be done every time when there is need. The study recommends that the management of the programme requires evaluation, monitoring and re-evaluation so as to operate from the best practices vantage point.</p>
