<p>This paper outlines a methodology for conducting systematic literature reviews (SLRs) and meta-analysis studies in the field of hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling. These models have made significant progress since the beginning of the nineteenth century. As global warming intensifies, integrating advanced information technologies into hydrological models is crucial for improving accuracy and enhancing predictive capabilities to address climate challenges effectively. This insight review on different modeling approaches for predicting the water balance components will help policy&#xa0;makers, researchers, and other governmental bodies to deliberately carry out watershed management practices with suitable model choices. Heterogeneity and climate change lead to uncertainties and play a major role in model selection. Several studies have been conducted to check the applicability of the various models all across the globe. The findings of this review paper will serve as a guide to researchers in identifying the type of hydrological or hydrodynamic model for a particular catchment. It will equally help water resource managers and policymakers with an executive summary of hydrological and hydrodynamic studies in terms of model performance and evaluation.</p>
