Revolutionizing Indian construction sector with sustainable modular LGSF-ferron composite construction technology

The Indian construction sector faces significant challenges in affordable housing, slum rehabilitation, and emergency housing, underscoring the need for innovative and cost-effective solutions to meet growing urban demands and enhance living conditions. There is an urgent need to develop environmentally friendly and low-cost building materials to address these issues. Ferrocement has emerged as a promising material in modern structural engineering, offering potential solutions for these construction challenges through its sustainability and cost-effectiveness. This study investigates the potential of integrating Light Gauge Steel Framing (LGSF) with ferrocement panels (Ferron) in contemporary construction, with a focus on both global and Indian contexts. The research highlights the synergistic potential of combining LGSF with Ferron panels to promote sustainable construction and advocates for their wider adoption in India. The study further explores the performance of ferrocement panels by examining the flexural and impact responses of three different samples, comprising nine panels, through two-point flexural and falling mass impact tests. This investigation aims to deepen the understanding of ferrocement panel behaviour and support the development of enhanced design techniques and construction methods. Additionally, the analysis includes crack patterns to provide further insights into panel performance under various conditions. Overall, the study underscores the importance of LGSF and Ferron panels in advancing sustainable construction and supports their broader application in India and globally. It offers valuable insights into the advantages and challenges of these materials, advocating for continued research and development to maximize their potential in sustainable building practices.
