Holistic Strategy for an In-Service Slab-on-Girder Bridge Subjected to the Effect of a Large Transport Vehicle

In this study, several cases of large transport vehicles are presented first, including specific types of vehicles and bridges, followed by the current transportation implementation process. The statistical analysis is then carried out with a focus on the numerical simulation-based theoretical analysis of different in-service slab-on-girder bridges subjected to different large transport vehicles. To verify the results of the statistical analysis, two case studies of real-time field monitoring are also provided. (1) The bending strength of the positive section and the shear strength of the oblique section (A1) of the concrete box girder bridge, the concrete hollow slab bridge and the concrete T-type girder bridge are in line with the design requirements. A similar situation prevails in the maximum deflection of the main span of the bridge. However, there is no obvious rule for the change in the maximum compressive stress or tensile stress of the concrete in the positive section or the inclined section. The concrete T-type girder bridge can carry a load of almost 473 tons. The weight corresponding to the critical stress of the hollow concrete slab bridge is between 504 and 686 tons. The concrete continuous box-type girder bridge (expert for the 30 m span) is also capable of carrying loads of close to 667 tons. This study enriches and refines the analysis related to heavy vehicle overcrossing and provides a macroscopic guideline for heavy vehicle overcrossing decision-making, especially heavy vehicle travel route development. A further analysis is also carried out to indicate that the travel speed can be further increased to improve the driving efficiency. This study is expected to provide some reference for the road transport of other large goods. The strong experiences presented herein are the innovative value of this study, and the benefits to the local economy and society are likely to be significant.
