摘要

Geopolymer concrete, an alternate binder to cement concrete has potential benefits such as high mechanical strength, exceptional durability, and environmental friendliness etc. when compared to normal concrete mixes. Geopolymer concrete can exhibit an extensive range of properties and characteristics in the mixes which make it a promising alternative to regular portland cement concrete. Various kinds of mineral additives and nanoparticles have been added to geopolymer composites in recent years in an attempt to improve the performance of the composites. In this study, the effect of incorporating Nano Silica and Metakaolin as mineral additives in the geopolymer concrete is investigated. Experimental investigation is carried out in two stages, to find optimal proportion of NaOH and Na2SiO3 in GPC mixtures and to synthesize geopolymer with the assimilation of Nano Silica and Metakaolin as mineral additives to enhance the performance parameters of GPC mixtures. The structural performance of the modified geopolymer concrete was studied to evaluate the strength and durability characteristics. Pore structural and Scanning Electron Microscopic observations were also carried out and the results revealed that Geopolymer concrete specimens substituted with 10% Metakaolin and 3% Nanosilica have better mechanical properties and improved pore structure observations. This study outlines the preparation of the Geopolymer concrete with the substitution of limited percentage of mineral additives to establish enhanced performance parameters, making it a sustainable construction material with lower carbon footprint for the future.
