Enhancement of Mechanical and Corrosion Behaviours of AZ91D Magnesium Hybrid Composites Reinforced with B4C and BN Particles
摘要
The study reveals that reinforcing AZ91D alloy with B4C and BN particles significantly enhances its mechanical and corrosion behaviours. The hybrid composites have been fabricated by stirring squeeze casting with varying weight percentages of B4C (3%, 6%, and 9%) and a constant weight percentage of BN (3%). XRD, SEM, and EDS analyses confirm the formation of intermetallic phases and elemental compositions of composites. The density of hybrid composites increased by 7.77%, whereas porosity decreased by 10.69% compared to AZ91D alloy. Hardness, tensile strength, compressive strength and corrosion resistance increased by 17.65%, 32.54%, 40.8%, and 77.43%, respectively. The particles act as barriers against material removal during sliding wear and exhibit a lower coefficient of friction in the hybrid composites. The hybrid composites outperform others regarding corrosion resistance, attributed to their improved surface integrity under salt spray conditions is attributed to the better effect of the ceramic particles and the formation of protective oxides. The enhanced behaviour of the AZ91D/B4C/BN composites makes them suitable for industrial, erosive, and corrosive environments.
