Fracture Mechanics Based Determination of Initiation Fracture Toughness (KIC) of Al-MMC Using Experimental, Analytical and Numerical Techniques
摘要
The fracture toughness (KIC) of aluminium die cast alloy (ADC-12) metal matrix composite material is evaluated in this study using experimental methods, specifically, two analytical models: (Hahn Rosenfield and modified Hahn Rosenfield model), and FEM analysis. It was found that the Hahn Rosenfield model (36%) and the modified Hahn Rosenfield analytical model (2.6%) overpredicted the experimentally measured KIC value. The recently proposed numerical methodology, based on FEM analysis results, underpredicts the experimental KIC value by 0.9%. The experimental fracture toughness of ADC-12 MMC material is 17.92 MPa√m, while the latest FEM investigation predicts 17.75 MPa√m, which is acceptable.
