Investigation on the Precipitation Behaviors of Intragranular Ferrite Due to Titanium Oxide in Microalloyed C-Mn Steel

Through thermodynamic calculations and experiments, the morphology, composition, size, and type of inclusions in microalloyed C–Mn steel after titanium deoxidation were studied, and the microstructure evolution of the steel before and after titanium addition was also studied. The results indicate that after adding titanium, the microstructure of the steel is significantly refined, and the titanium deoxidation products can be the nucleation site of manganese sulfide and titanium nitride inclusions, or Al2O3 becomes the nucleus of the deoxidation product of Ti in solidification of liquid steel, which form fine dispersed inclusions. These small inclusions can induce acicular ferrite precipitation within the austenite grains, resulting in the refinement of the microstructure.
