摘要
Meaning is central to human life yet remains enigmatic. Where does it originate? Can it fit within a scientific worldview? How do we interpret and convey it? This review engages with Meaning: A Very Short Introduction by Emma Borg and Sarah Fisher, part of the popular Oxford Very Short Introduction series, currently under review, using language as a case study to explore interpretation and communication. It also critiques the imperialistic tendencies of Western philosophy of language from a cultural perspective including outlining some Indian standpoint with regard to the problem of meaning.
