摘要

Previous studies on media literacy as a subject at German Adult Education Centers (Volkshochschule) indicate a long-lasting trend towards instrumental and qualification-oriented media competencies focused primarily on work-related topics that has lasted for decades. Whether and to what extent the addressing of media-related competencies in program offerings has changed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has not been sufficiently researched in the recent past and is therefore the question posed in this article. A sample of five Adult Education Centers was formed for this purpose. From the institutions examined, half-year programs from the last planning cycle before the outbreak of the pandemic and programs from the period after the end of the pandemic were evaluated based on the media competence models of Baacke (1996) and DigComp 2.2 AT (BMDW 2018) using a program analysis. The research findings indicate that at the majority of the institutions examined, the number of program offerings has decreased overall, while the proportion of offerings related to media literacy has mostly increased. Moreover, the results indicate a slight shift away from basic operating and application skills towards a critical and creative handling of media technologies. The article discusses the results based on findings from program research, as well as trends in topics during the pandemic and the accompanying changes in demand behavior.
