<p>The COP method provides a foundational framework for assessing the vulnerability of karst aquifers. However, its limitations, particularly in accounting for the influence of piezometric depth on water aquifers contamination, necessitate refinement. This study introduces the COP*D method, an enhanced approach that integrates critical modifications to the original COP methodology, addressing these limitations and improving applicability in complex hydrogeological settings. The application of the COP*D method to the Agourai karst plateau a vital groundwater resource highly vulnerable to anthropogenic pressures such as intensive agriculture and open-pit quarrying demonstrates superior spatial differentiation. This improvement is evidenced by a stronger correlation between groundwater vulnerability classes and nitrate contamination levels. Comparative analysis confirms the COP*D method’s enhanced performance over the original COP model, offering a robust framework for assessing karst groundwater vulnerability and delivering essential insights for effective pollution management and mitigation.</p>
