摘要

The growing demand of well-rounded engineers with ethical base, emotional maturity and social conscience necessitates paradigm shift in engineering education. The central issue to which the present paper responds concerns the urgent need of most Indian private engineering colleges to receive students with different levels of academic readiness and to have their traditional and examination-oriented curriculum neglect the crucial personals and ethical growth, which thus represents a serious setback to the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This paper acknowledges a lack of culturally and data-driven models of pedagogy and the proposed theoretical and pedagogical framework is aimed at incorporating time-honored teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to a modern course. The concept is based on the Gita fundamentals of Jnana Yoga (critical thinking), Karma Yoga (ethical decision-making), Sthitaprajna (emotional intelligence), and Lokasangraha (social responsibility) and proposes to nurture these four, critical, holistic dimensions. It describes particular curricular integrations, co—curricular activities, and faculty development practices all in a non- sectarian and universal approach. This model implements a direct solution to such concerns as outcome anxiety and self-efficacy among various groups of students. The suggested framework is also in line with NEP 2020 on value-based education and renewing Indian knowledge systems. It provides a feasible track through which the institutions can raise technically competent, international ethical, robust and socially accountable engineers regardless of their initial academic performance. The theoretical framework can be used as a basis in the future to conduct empirical research, which will offer tangible evidence of the effectiveness of NEP 2020 implementation strategies.
