Operability and Limitations of the Grid Following Converter from the Perspective of X/R Ratio and SCR
摘要
Modern power networks are increasingly incorporating renewable energy sources forming microgrid Systems. Because these sources are diverse, there are additional issues for these power systems’ stability. The Grid-Following (GFL) converter has been introduced as a significant solution in the microgrid context for the upcoming power systems in order to handle this transition. However, when incorporated into the power network, which may have a varied reactance to resistance (X/R) ratio and Short Circuit Ratio (SCR), the GFL converter may suffer from poor performance and stability. The literature does not adequately address this crucial consequence, particularly when the GFL converter is used as a reduced-order model. To close this gap, the purpose of this paper is to: (1) determine the maximum power exchange capability of the converter and the power transferred to the grid; and (2) analyze the system behavior when the SCR is fixed and the X/R ratio is varied or when the X/R ratio is fixed and the SCR is varied. Consequently, a summary of the reduced-order model’s modelling and control based on the GFL converter is investigated. A correlation analysis of the SCR and the X/R ratio of a grid-connected converter is investigated. Then, case scenarios based time-domain simulations considering different X/R ratio and SCR have been performed.
