摘要

This study examines the relationship between COVID-19 incidence, vaccination rates, and attendance patterns among ethnically diverse children in New Zealand, addressing a gap in previous research by focusing on ethnic-specific impacts. Using daily attendance rates, COVID-19 case data, and vaccination uptake from 2021-2022, we applied Spearman correlation and various machine learning techniques for analysis. Our findings reveal a negative correlation between COVID-19 surges and reduced attendance in 2021, notably among specific ethnic groups, which extended uniformly across all ethnicities in 2022. Additionally, vaccination rates were correlated with attendance patterns, with particularly pronounced impacts on Asian children. These results highlight the significant effects of the pandemic on Asian children and underscore the need to address ethnic disparities in pandemic mitigation strategies within educational settings. By employing diverse analytical methods, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of pandemic impacts on attendance behaviors, enriching the scholarly discourse on COVID-19 dynamics and offering a foundation for evidence-based policy formulation.
