<p>The article “On electrocatalysis” by Dmitriy Alekseyev, published in Russian in 1909, is translated and discussed in terms of both terminological issues and scientific content. The latter is related to heterogeneous mediator electrocatalysis, as illustrated by Alekseyev’s original study of ammonia electrooxidation on a lead dioxide anode. This mechanism of electrocatalysis is now widely known for the oxidation of organic reagents and the reduction of oxygen on transition metal oxides. In addition, a brief scientific biography and an available bibliography of Dmitriy Alekseyev are presented.</p>

摘要

The article “On electrocatalysis” by Dmitriy Alekseyev, published in Russian in 1909, is translated and discussed in terms of both terminological issues and scientific content.
