摘要

The role and outcome of innovation processes are increasingly being questioned given the rising social inequalities and shift in policymaking towards the SDGs. Based on the capabilities approach and regional development perspective, this paper aims to further explore the nexus between innovation and human development by empirically testing the impact of mediating institutional, social and territorial conversion factors in this process. Using data on 233 NUTS2 regions from 2010–19, we apply a stochastic frontier analysis and find that the positive association between human development, innovation and GDP per capita is mediated by regional institutional quality, youth inclusion and territorial cohesion as conversion factors.
