<p>The use of calculus in chemistry is much more than just for computation – it is an essential tool for the analysis, modelling and meaning-making of many chemical phenomena. Through discussions along three themes, this Commentary highlights various aspects of the interplay between chemistry and mathematics, as well as possible opportunities and synergies for a collaborative approach in undergraduate education to promote students’ deeper conceptual understanding of both disciplines.</p>
