Effect of Nano-reinforcement Particles on Mechanical and Tribological Characteristics of Composite Materials: An In-Depth Review
摘要
This review explores the role of nano-reinforcement particles such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene nanoplatelets, silicon carbide (SiC), boron nitride (BN), aluminum oxide (Al2O3), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and titanium diboride (TiB2) in improving the mechanical and tribological properties of composite materials. These nanoparticles enhance strength, hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability by improving load transfer and forming strong interfacial bonding with the matrix. Various fabrication techniques, including stir casting, powder metallurgy, ultrasonic processing, and additive manufacturing, are discussed for their effectiveness in achieving uniform dispersion and enhancing material performance. The review also highlights key challenges such as nanoparticle agglomeration, interfacial incompatibility, and processing complexity while suggesting mitigation strategies. Furthermore, emerging approaches, such as hybrid reinforcements and machine learning-based material design, are examined for their potential to optimize composite behavior. Overall, nano-reinforced composites demonstrate significant promise for high-performance applications in aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and defense sectors.
