<p>One of the biggest industrial threats is corrosion. One of the best methods to combat it is corrosion inhibitors. The majority of corrosion inhibitors used in industry, however, is costly and hazardous. Furthermore, the majority of these inhibitors do not satisfy the strict environmental regulations. Pharmaceutical items are one of these well-known subfields. Therefore, employing single-step chemical transformations to functionalize the pharmaceuticals chemically can be a novel and efficient approach in corrosion inhibition. The high cost of medications is one of the main drawbacks of using them for this reason. This review article offers a thorough summary of the scientific literature on the application of various categories of antibiotics as inhibitors of corrosion in a variety of aggressive solutions. The researched metal or alloy, the aggressive solution’s composition, and the inhibitor’s concentration in the solution are all factors that affect the inhibition efficiency of antibiotic drugs. This review article described the structure of amoxicillin drug through FTIR studies and its interaction with Fe (110) in acidic medium during corrosion mitigation. Electrochemical and surface morphology analysis of cefotaxime which is used as corrosion inhibitor on aluminium metal in sodium hydroxide medium was discussed. The review also provides inhibition mechanism of tetracycline drug. The advantages and disadvantages of using different classes of antibiotics as anticorrosive agents are demonstrated briefly in the article.</p>
