<p>Autism identification has long demonstrated disparities across gender in and out of schools. Though rating scales are often used in the identification and diagnosis of autism, many have not been evaluated for their psychometric properties specific to girls. The Autism Spectrum Rating Scales (ASRS; Goldstein &amp; Naglieri, 2013) is one such measure. This study evaluated the construct validity and differential item functioning of the ASRS across gender. Parents of children (<i>n</i> = 806) without disabilities aged 6–18 completed the ASRS. Of the children rated, 41.9% were girls. Data were analyzed using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) and differential item functioning via item response theory (DIF-IRT). Two of the three subscales (self-regulation and social communication) demonstrated metric non-invariance. Partial metric invariance was achieved via omission of items. Via DIF-IRT, one item demonstrated non-uniform DIF. There may be conceptual differences in how the ASRS measures autism symptomology at the structural and, to a lesser degree, the item level across boys and girls.</p>
