Embedding Inclusionary Practices in School Problem-Solving Meetings
摘要
Multi-tiered systems of support models require effective, formal problem-solving to address both systemic and individual educational difficulties. Problem-solving can be negatively influenced by vulnerable decision-points given the daily challenges working in schools, the subjectivity of many types of information discussed in meetings, and the general demographics of educational professionals. We suggest that teams can reduce negative impact from vulnerable decision-points by promoting inclusive environments and culturally responsive, equitable practices. In this manuscript, we describe methods of inclusive practices in problem-solving stemming from consultation and meeting facilitation skills. We describe problem-solving meetings as a sequence of pre-meeting, warm-up, action, closure and post-meeting phases with opportunities for inclusive practices in each phase. We include a case example to illustrate the practices discussed.
