<p>This commentary explores how the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and Spain’s Medical Intern Resident (MIR) examination are experienced by the community, contrasting the largely individual experience associated with the USMLE with the more communal and public celebrations observed following the MIR. Differences may reflect structural factors and broader cultural orientations toward individual versus collective achievement. Perceived social support plays a crucial role in mitigating stress and promoting well-being during medical training. Further research is needed to better understand the relationship between the cultural and social framing of examinations and outcomes such as burnout, psychological distress, and physician suicide.</p>
