摘要

Sarcopenia is widely acknowledged as a condition compromising physical performance and overall quality of life, largely through its metabolic and endocrine effects. Recent evidence suggests that such activities may also extend their impact to sexual function. Most of the available research, primarily consisting of cross-sectional studies in elderly male populations, indicates a significant relationship between sarcopenia – or its individual components – and sexual dysfunction, especially erectile dysfunction. Nonetheless, methodological heterogeneity and the scarcity of data on women prevent firm conclusions from being drawn. Future longitudinal and well-standardised studies are required to elucidate the biological pathways involved, determine causal links, and design targeted strategies to preserve both muscle and sexual health. This review highlights the need for greater scientific attention to this understudied topic, particularly in women.
