<p>Pituitary neuroendocrine tumours (PitNET)/pituitary adenomas comprise a heterogenous group of neoplasms whose classification has undergone multiple revisions; nevertheless, some issues remain undefined. The main aim of this review is to provide a summary of the current classification, specifically discussing its limitations, of the potential algorithms for histopathological diagnosis and of the role of molecular pathology in this setting.</p>
