摘要

This research paper examines the variations in maternal health across different districts of the Jammu Division in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.Jammu Division, a geographically and culturally diverse region, presents a unique challenge for maternal health outcomes. The division is marked by a stark contrast in physiography, socio-economic indicators, and cultural practices, which can compound disparities in maternal health across districts. Utilizing secondary data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) and the Digest of Statistics, Jammu and Kashmir, this study employs a composite index to evaluate the overall maternal health status in each district. Pearson’s correlation method is applied to analyze the relationship between maternal health and various demographic and socio-economic indicators. Geospatial analysis, facilitated by ARC GIS, is used to visualize these disparities and their contributing factors. The findings reveal significant inter-district variations in maternal health outcomes. Districts situated in plain areas, such as Jammu, Samba, and Kathua, exhibit better maternal health performance. This better performance is attributed to higher levels of urbanization, female literacy, less below poverty line (BPL) population, and better infrastructure. In contrast, districts in mountainous regions such as Reasi, Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar with lower levels of urbanization and higher tribal populations show poorer maternal health indicators. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers aiming to improve maternal health outcomes and reduce regional inequalities within the Jammu Division.Addressing these disparities is crucial for regional planning, asmaternal health directly impacts the socio-economic development and well-being of communities in Jammu Division.
