Response of Under-Reamed Batter Piles Subjected to Seismic Excitation: Experimental Observations
摘要
Under-reamed batter piles are used in various geotechnical construction; they have been adopted in structures subjected to large lateral loads. Different models have been developed to simulate the performance of batter piles under seismic loading, consisting of vertical pile group models and under-reamed batter piles group models placed in dry sandy soil, regarding various parameters, such as different batter angles (10°, 20°, and 30° from vertical), different soil conditions, varying base shaking signals, and different tip conditions. Data were obtained considering the lateral and vertical displacement of the raft foundation model, acceleration time history, and bending moment along the depth of the piles. The results revealed that foundations with under-reamed batter piles have advantages compared to those with vertical piles. In loose soil conditions and under 0.1 g seismic events, less displacement was reported when changing the batter angles from 0 to 30°, approximately 58% and 57% in the vertical and lateral directions, respectively. Additionally, under-reamed batter piles provide lower moment values corresponding to the vertical pile’s group. The reduction percentage of the maximum bending moment values for edge, corner, and center pile locations was about 51%, 50%, and 38%, respectively.
