Autism Training Programs for Providers Supporting Autistic Adults: A Scoping Review
摘要
Challenges faced by autistic adults often require support services and specialized care. However, care providers may not receive adequate training to prepare them to serve the care needs of autistic adults. In this scoping review, we assess autism-related training for providers of autistic adults. Our review identified 20 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Participants who underwent training in the included studies generally showed positive changes post-training, whether knowledge, behavior, self-efficacy, attitudes/perceptions, or satisfaction were measured. However, only 60% of the studies had moderate or high levels of evidence. Given these findings, training for providers of autistic adults should be expanded and developed through rigorously designed trials (e.g., randomized controlled trials or single-case studies).
