Purpose of Review <p>Including people with intellectual (and developmental) disabilities in research that is important to them is a matter of ethics and practice. Here, the author reviews the literature and draws on their own research to discuss a graphic and visual research tool called ecomap, considering its potential as a research participation promoting tool for participants with intellectual disabilities.</p> Recent Findings <p>This review explores the use of ecomaps in research with people with intellectual disabilities by examining their origins, applications, and potential, along with relevant training considerations, methodological processes, benefits, and limitations. Taken together, these sections aim to stimulate a conversation about the potential of ecomaps as a graphic elicitation tool, a visual aid, and an access-promoting tool to help facilitate research participation for a group who is often marginalized but who have important insights to offer into the nature and quality of supports and services in their lives.</p> Summary <p>Graphic elicitation tools like ecomaps have the potential to gather rich information and create greater access to research participation.</p>
