摘要

Inadequate management of acute pain negatively affects recovery and can lead to adverse outcomes. Acute pain may have a wide range of causes and severity, as such, clinicians should tailor its pharmacological management on a case-by-case basis. Established therapies, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen (paracetamol) and opioids, are effective analgesics, especially when used in combination. Opioids should be with caution and opioid-sparing techniques are recommended. Emerging agents such as suzetrigine are promising additions to the analgesic options. Further novel analgesic therapies [including cebranopadol, sublingual ketamine, naproxen/pregabalin conjugate (HTX-011), and AAT-076] are in clinical development.
