摘要

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common, multifactorial condition impacting maternal and child health worldwide. Treatments include lifestyle, psychosocial, psychological (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy) and pharmacological options such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, with attention to breastfeeding considerations. Recent advances in neurobiology have led to the investigation of synthetic neuroactive steroids and their analogues (e.g. brexanolone, zuranolone) as potentially faster acting and more targeted treatments for PPD. Despite effective treatment options, barriers to care exist at the system, provider and patient levels. Emerging solutions include virtual care, task-sharing, culturally sensitive care and collaborative care models to improve access and outcomes.
