摘要

Current guidelines recommend treatment of refractory or unexplained chronic cough with neuromodulators such as low-dose morphine, gabapentin or pregabalin. However, their use may be limited by inadequate response or adverse events. New and emerging treatments targeting novel therapeutic avenues (receptors and ion channels involved in cough) may offer improved efficacy and safety. The first of these is the recently approved purinergic 2X3 homotrimeric channel (P2X3) receptor antagonist, gefapixant.
