It discusses the clinical importance of the examination on spinal cord injury classification, prognosis, and clinical care.</p> Recent Findings <p>The article reviews the updated ISNCSCI exam guidelines based upon the recent 2019 revisions, which introduced several new concepts.</p> Summary <p>The ISNCSCI exam is one of the most important tools for physiatrists treating patients living with spinal cord injury. It is a baseline assessment of the patient’s neurologic function and allows for evaluation of neurologic changes over time. It is the most important tool for prognostication. The spinal cord injury classification affects medical management, discharge planning and functional goal setting. It is essential to understand how to perform and interpret the ISNCSCI exam.</p>
