Purpose of Review <p>This review summarizes recent literature on the challenges of prehospital management of critically injured patients. Enhanced care teams (ECTs), led by physicians, offer a solution by providing advanced prehospital resuscitative care. Anesthesiologists, with their expertise in trauma care and critical interventions, are well-suited for leading these teams.</p> Recent Findings <p>Evidence supporting use of these teams remains mixed due to challenges in research methodology, patient heterogeneity, and different models of healthcare systems. Nonetheless, studies suggest that ECTs, particularly in addressing triage, airway management and hemorrhage control, can potentially improve outcomes in critically injured patients. Future research is needed to validate the benefit of ECTs and establish clear triage criteria to maximize their impact on reducing preventable trauma deaths worldwide.</p> Summary <p>ECTs led by anesthesiologists may improve outcomes in the most critically ill or injured patient by providing advanced resuscitative care closer to the point of injury.</p>
