Cough: What is the Role of Allergy?
摘要
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview for chronic cough and specifically explore how allergies play a role in chronic cough.
Recent FindingsRecent literature focuses on the interplay between cough and allergic diseases, such as non-asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis and allergic rhinitis. Additionally, newer studies explore the interplay between inflammation and cough sensitivity.
SummaryThe etiology of chronic cough is often multifactorial and can be difficult to narrow down. Allergic diseases often present with a cough as a main symptom and therefore allergic diseases should be explored as part of a work-up for a chronic cough. Additionally, allergic responses and inflammation have been shown to sensitize cough receptors, which may make patients more susceptible to developing a hypersensitivity cough or neurogenic cough.
