<p>Several correlations have been proposed in the literature to relate the friction angle of sands to the standard penetration test (SPT) <i>N</i>-values. However, most of these correlations have been developed based on limited data and for specific types of sands. This issue raises concerns about their applicability in conventional geotechnical engineering practice. This article presents a critical review of the available correlations between the friction angle of sands and SPT <i>N</i>-values. Furthermore, a novel correlation is proposed based on a dataset compiled from the literature. The proposed correlation demonstrates satisfactory predictive capabilities for a wide range of sand types and SPT <i>N</i>-values.</p>
