摘要

In general, in a coal mine, the underground surface activity is characterized by tough working conditions and a hazardous environment. The hostile environment in the coal mine is due to the fluctuation of the subsurface atmosphere. Normally there are various gaseous leakage (particularly methane CH4) and landslips which make the mining environment for the workers dangerous. All these changes become randomized and create a serious threat to workers and miners who face a challenging environment. Reliable data transfer and monitoring with a quick response are very vital in such hazardous environments. This paper introduces the idea of environmental monitoring, employing wireless sensor nodes (WSN), integrated with an application based on the Internet of Things (IoT). The developed system is directed more towards real-time monitoring, especially in gas detection, surveillance, and tracking in coal mines. The system is developed to alert the miners and the authorities about the situation, in real-time, under the earth. Moreover, the localization system continuously tracks the location of the miners to provide complete safety especially if any rescue operation inside the mine is desired. A thorough analysis has been conducted to derive the efficiency of the entire framework. The feasibility of the proposed system is evaluated through a strengthened ratio of delivered packets, reliability of the network, reduced delay, and average error assessment.
