Root Cause Analysis of Global Semiconductor Shortage: A Comprehensive Theoretical Framework
摘要
The semiconductor industry is currently experiencing a critical shortage that is causing widespread disruptions across multiple sectors of the global economy. This paper introduces a comprehensive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) framework designed to identify and address the underlying factors contributing to this shortage. Leveraging established RCA methodologies, such as the Funnel diagram, this research delves into both global and operational variables that exacerbate vulnerabilities within the semiconductor supply chain. It provides an in-depth exploration of the factors that have intensified these disruptions, including manufacturing inefficiencies, supply chain fragility, and geopolitical tensions. The proposed RCA framework highlights key challenges that hinder the industry’s ability to meet demand, and it offers a structured approach to understanding the interconnectedness of these factors. In addition, the study proposes a set of robust, data-driven solutions aimed at mitigating these vulnerabilities. These include strategies such as material diversification to reduce dependency on single sources, advanced forecasting models based on real-time data analytics, and the establishment of strategic public-private partnerships to strengthen supply chain resilience and ensure long-term sustainability. Through this comprehensive framework, the paper presents actionable insights for industry stakeholders ranging from manufacturers to policymakers who seek to bolster semiconductor supply chains and enhance their ability to withstand future disruptions. By addressing both the immediate causes and long-term risks, this study aims to provide a holistic approach to safeguarding the semiconductor industry against emerging challenges.
