<p>Healthcare facilities can be classified as critical infrastructures that are needed to provide immediate medical services after major disasters such as earthquakes. The seismic resilience of a hospital building can be quantified with reference to post-earthquake recovery time. Studies in the literature have reported that the seismic resilience of the overall system is dependent on both structural member damage and non-structural component (NSC) damage to the building due to a considered earthquake hazard level. The evaluation of the seismic resilience of a building primarily involves the selection of suitable metrics for measuring the quality of infrastructure, modeling the losses due to damage and the time required to restore to the pre-disaster performance level. The current study explores this concept and reviews the procedures in existing research to estimate the seismic resilience of hospitals. Furthermore, a simplified methodology for estimating the seismic resilience of an existing hospital building is demonstrated through seismic fragility analysis.</p>
