<p>The presence of an array of flora and fauna species endemic to the Eastern Himalayas has significantly contributed to its applied knowledge and its various applications to the local populace. Over time, these local plants' broad applicability has permeated the people's traditional and social fabric in the region. Furthermore, using these plants to treat diseases is still common among the locals. The Darjeeling Himalayan region is characterized by diverse ethnomedicinal plants and a rich heritage of traditional medicinal practices. The locals rely on medicinal plants for minor ailments like stomachaches, headaches, food poisoning, cuts, and diarrhea; also quite common is their use against significant health issues like kidney problems, fractures, diabetes, and hypertension. Some medicinal plants are also a source of anti-venom and anticancer drugs. The gloomy scheme of exorbitant prices of synthetic drugs in medication has flagged the race to find alternatives of plant origin, which may have little or negligible side effects in comparison to synthetic drugs. This review provides in depth knowledge of different ethnomedicinal plants of the Darjeeling district region and their local use as well as the different pharmacological studies with scientific validation. Furthermore, this review also has recorded the different phytochemicals found in these plants which is novel.</p>
