摘要

Prebiotics are the strategies that refer to non-digestible fermented food products that support the growth of beneficial microbes in the gut. The vital role of the gut microbiota in human health has created significant interest in modulating its composition and metabolic function. Using recent techniques, nanotechnology may improve the stability, efficiency, encapsulation ability, and bioavailability. Therefore, this review describes the role of prebiotics in establishing gut microbiota and different strategies applied for gut microflora modulation. Extraction of prebiotics through enzymatic hydrolysis, microwave-assisted extraction, and ultrasound-assisted extraction processes is also conferred. The use of nanotechnology to improve the production and quality of prebiotics and probiotics is also discussed.
