<p>Climate change is considered to be the most significant environmental encounters. Study of rainfall pattern and trend in the long term is essential from climatic change and socio-economic perspectives and for effective water resource management in the regions. Temporal changes are more influenced due to an extreme weather event. The present research work conducted in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra state, India to understand the spatio-temporal trends and rainfall variability (pre-and post-monsoon, monsoon, winter and annual rainfall). In order to identify rainfall trend, 119 years of rainfall data, spanning 1901 to 2019, were employed. The well-known linear regression analysis, Mann-Kendall (MK) analysis test and Sen’s slope (SS) estimator methods are used to determine the rainfall trend and its significance. Rainfall ranges from 393&#xa0;mm to 1154&#xa0;mm per year in the Marathwada region, while it varies from 560&#xa0;mm to 1448&#xa0;mm per year in the Vidarbha region. Mann-Kendall test results show a positive trend in annual rainfall for thirteen districts out of nineteen districts from the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions while the Sens Slope values for the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons show a positive trend for more than 90% and 50% area, respectively. The results indicate both positive and negative trends in pre-monsoon, monsoon, post-monsoon and in winter season rainfall in both the regions. The results obtained from the study will be useful for the management of water resources. Identifying trends in rainfall variability aids in forecasting extreme weather events, enabling better preparedness and disaster risk reduction. Analysis of these patterns can helps optimize agricultural practices to enhance food security.</p>
