<p>This paper documents the first-ever presence of the recently described Melongena, <i>Pugilina axelalfi</i> Thach, 2023, in Indian water and second record in the globe. It was first described from Phύ Quốc Island, Kiên Giang Province, Southwest Vietnam. The eight specimens were collected from the Digha coast, West Bengal, along the northwestern coast of the Bay of Bengal, India. The identification of the species was established by examining the morphological characters of the shell, operculum, and radula through SEM photography. The <i>Pugilina axelalfi</i> was compared with the commonly distributed species, <i>Volegalea cochlidium</i>, for taxonomic validation. The specimens were deposited at the National Zoological Collections of Zoological Survey of India, Digha with the voucher registration number for future reference. A checklist of species of Melongenidae from Indian waters is provided herewith.</p>
