摘要

Nanoparticles are particulate substance that has at least one dimension in the size of 1–100 nm. Nanoparticles could be of various types based on the size, shape and property. Hence, it has various domestic and commercial applications such as biomedical applications, imaging, catalysis and environmental applications. Gracilaria edulis belongs to the red algae family Gracilariaceae. G. edulis is one of the most cultivated species. It is rich in essential amino acids, vitamins and other bioactive compounds. The study focuses on the green synthesis of biogenic iron oxide nanoparticles (GeFeNPs). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy dispersive X-ray and Thermogravimetric analysis were performed in order to determine the functional groups, crystalline nature, size, shape, elemental composition and thermal stability of GeFeNPs. FTIR analysis reveals the presence of alkene and aryl halides in GeFeNPs. XRD spectrum displayed the crystalline nature of GeFeNPs and diameter of 34.89 nm. FESEM images exhibited that the GeFeNPs were cubical in shape with the average size of 40 nm. EDS study confirmed the occurrence of iron and oxygen in GeFeNPs.
